Amphibious Multi Person Vehicle
The objective of the AMPV is to support the Warfighter, First Responder, and Law Enforcement Agent with a multi purpose vehicle capable of surface water travel, and on/off road travel for the expressed purpose of providing reconnaissance, sensor placement and maintenance, search, and rescue in littoral, riverine, and other restricted wetland terrain. In an armed military role it can also provide fire direction and support, and special operations insertions and recovery. It will close current critical gaps in mobility and high-speed operations in these terrains in order to prevent, detect, and deter terrorist activities and improve response capabilities to mitigate terrorist activities if they are not deterred. This family of vehicles can be employed for the full spectrum of
Defense and Homeland Security, including:
- Conventional littoral and riverine military operations (Active Component and Reserve Component)
- Special Operations Forces (SOF)
- Intelligence agencies
- Chemical, Biological Emergency Response Teams (CBERFs)
- Federal Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA)
- State, county, and municipal law enforcement and emergency services.
This vehicle will primarily target littoral, riverine, and other wetland environments. Current law enforcement and military operations have been limited by a single mode of travel. Aircraft cannot typically land in this type of terrain. Watercraft and ground vehicles are restricted to specific terrain. Due to the variable trafficability requirements, operations must now use a variety of watercraft, ground vehicles, and dismounted movement to effectively patrol and monitor these types of terrain. Clandestine operations, such as SOF and tactical law enforcement, currently have limited means to enter potential hostile zones in these types of terrain, often giving the targets means to canalize friendly forces into prepared areas. This vehicle will address this operational shortfall with a system that can be transported by flatbed trailer, cargo aircraft, or by larger vessels, then be launched and recovered from water, road, or unimproved fields. Modifications can be for sand or snow operations, increasing the potential operational envelope.
